Superettan
The Superettan represents the second tier of professional football within Sweden and many historic and successful clubs are included here. The action on the pitch remains thrilling and competitive and the division has great support, both from fans and the football betting community. Those with an interest in the Superettan can also find a home at Unibet. We’re a company with its roots in Sweden and are proud to back the set up with a host of betting markets and competitive odds. As part of the overall package, we also provide Unibet TV which is a live streaming service set up to ensure that you can catch the best of the action on the pitch.
Superettan Set Up
The second division of Swedish football was established in 2000 and two very big names in the game finished at the top of the table. Multiple Allsvenskan winners Djurgardens won the Superettan in that inaugural season while Malmo, who reached the European Cup final in 1979, came home in second place.
Those two names underline the potential strength of this league and the fact that the Superettan can comfortably match the thrills provided by the Swedish top tier.
The current format allows for 16 teams to take part in the Superettan and each side will play each other twice - on a home and away basis. At the end of 30 matches, the team at the top of the table will be crowned champions and promoted to the top level - the Allsvenskan.
The side in second place will also be promoted while the third placed team will tackle an Allsvenskan team for a final slot in the top division. At the wrong end of the table, the two sides at the very bottom will drop into the third tier while the two sides above them enter into relegation playoffs.
Compared with other league systems around Europe and beyond, it’s a relatively simple set up but it’s one that provides us with a host of football and a choice of outright markets to bet on. Unibet will be onside at every stage of the competition with outright and match betting options and don’t forget that Unibet TV is here with live streamed coverage.
Know Your Teams
The presence of Djurgardens and Malmo in the very first edition of the Superettan could offer some clues when constructing a betting strategy moving forward. Teams that have recently been relegated from the top tier of Swedish football can often bounce back and see themselves promoted at the first attempt.
Sides that have narrowly missed out on promotion in the previous campaign can also be strong as they look to make certain of success this time around. Naturally, these, and other trends aren’t guaranteed to produce a winner and you should look to carry out your own research into form and the strength of the respective squads.
Our outright markets are also designed to help with their range of odds on all 16 teams involved. Consider the favourites while looking to see if there is any potential for value in the chasing pack. Remember, whoever you choose to back, you can see how that wager unfolds when you follow all the live action on Unibet TV.
